UCONN, Iona Transfers Headline Setter Recruiting
Class
With Pace coming off one of their better seasons in recent history, the Setters have taken another step forward in their goal of winning the Northeast-10 Conference crown. The Setters have announced their recruiting class for the 2009 season, which is headed by a number of Division I and Junior College transfers. Coach Iezzi and his staff hit the recruiting trails hard and have landed a number of good players from all across the east coast. With the addition of these new athletes and a solid crew of starters returning, Pace is hoping to continue to progress next season. Below is a list of players who have already committed to play for the Setters next season, a list that Coach Iezzi believes will continue to grow throughout the spring.
Maquan Adams OL (6'4", 250 lbs.) - Bloomfield HS
Maquan Adams signs with the Setters after finishing a stellar high school career at Bloomfield High School in Essex County, New Jersey. Adams led a swarming offensive line last season, to one of the top running games in NJ, Maquan was also a standout shot-putter for the Bengals. Adams continue his dominance on the offensive line in the fall for Pace.
Steve Alesi (6'1, 230 lbs.) - Commack HS, Nassau CC, Bridgewater State
Steve Alesi makes the jump to Pace after having played at an assortment of schools over the past few years. Alesi contributed at Nassau Community College for a season and then became a starter at Bridgewater State. Before college, Alesi was an All-Division player at Commack High School on Long Island. Alesi will play linebacker for the Setters.
Mike Aydinian (5'10", 190 lbs.) - Westhampton Beach HS
Mike Aydinian comes to Pace from Westhampton Beach High School on Long Island, where he led his Hurricanes to the playoffs in all three of his varsity seasons. Mike is a tremendous athlete, who turned many scouts' heads with his stellar performance at the Long Island Blue Chip Combine over the summer. Aydinian will most likely play on the defensive side of the ball for the Setters and Coach Iezzi believes he has the potential to make an immediate impact in the Setter secondary.
Casey Brooks-Totten (6'4", 280 lbs.) - Old Bridge HS
Casey Brooks-Totten comes to Pace after a terrific senior season at Old Bridge High School in New Jersey under longtime Coach Robert DeMarco. Brooks-Totten led a highly touted offensive line that manhandled opposing defensive lines throughout the year. Brooks-Totten will play offensive line for the Setters.
Ray Capo (6'1", 215 lbs.) - Lakeland Regional HS
Ray Capo has committed to Pace after playing for Lakeland Regional High School in New Jersey. Capo played running back and outside backer for a Lakeland team that went to the state title game and finished the season 11-1. Ray will play linebacker at Pace in the fall.
Ryan Cuffe (6'1", 220 lbs.) - St. Peter's Boys HS
Ryan Cuffe committed to Pace after playing three seasons of varsity ball at St. Peter's Boys High School on Staten Island. Cuffe started both ways his senior season and made a number of plays from both his linebacker and tight end positions. Cuffe will play tight end for the Setters.
Kyle Curran (6'0", 195 lbs.) - Worcester Academy
Kyle spent last season at Worcester Academy in Massachusetts after playing his high school ball in Shaftsbury, Vermont. In high school, Kyle was a two-time All-State selection. Kyle will contribute at running back and on special teams for Pace.
Steve D'Allesandro (6'2", 275 lbs.) - Bishop Eustace Preparatory School
Steve D'Allesandro arrives at Pace after a stellar career playing line at Bishop Eustace Preparatory School in New Jersey. D'Allesandro was a force on both sides of the ball throughout his career with the Crusaders. Steve will play offensive line at Pace.
Yves Delpeche (6'0", 190 lbs.) - Hudson Valley CC, Canarsie HS
Yves Delpeche comes to Pace from Hudson Valley Community College, where he played last season. Before Hudson Valley, Yves played at Canarsie High School
Robert Eversleigh (5'11", 185 lbs.) - Good Counsel HS
Robert Eversleigh comes to Pace from Good Counsel High School in Maryland. Eversleigh played receiver and defensive back for the Falcons, helping his team to an 11-1 record and a spot in the WCAC Championship game. Eversleigh will play receiver or running back for the Setters.
Joe Garcia (6'0", 200 lbs.) - Floral Park HS, Iona College
Joe Garcia is one of the many transfers from Iona that Coach Iezzi believes will make an instantaneous impression on the program. Garcia saw action in all 11 games for the Gaels last year, racking up 51 total tackles and intercepting one pass. Garcia also forced and recovered a fumble, as well as broke up nine passes for Iona. Before college, Garcia was an All-County player at Floral Park High School on Long Island.
Matthew Grosser (6'0", 225 lbs.) - Pompton Lakes HS
Matthew Grosser comes to Pace from Pompton Lakes High School in New Jersey. At Pompton Lakes, Grosser was a two-year All-League pick playing center and defensive end. Grosser will contribute on either the offensive or defensive line at Pace.
DJ Henry (6'3"- 180 lbs.) - Oliver Ames HS, Milford Academy, Iona College
A transfer from Iona, DJ will add depth to a solid, returning receiver corps. Before Iona, DJ played a year of prep ball at Milford Academy. In high school, DJ was an All-State receiver at Oliver Ames High School in Massachusetts.
Dwayne Jones (6'4", 240 lbs.) - Stepinac HS, Central Connecticut, Iona College
Another steal from Iona, Dwayne Jones is a big body that will be an enormous help to a defensive line that was ravaged by graduation last season. Jones saw the field in seven games last season for the Gaels, making 58 tackles and 8.5 sacks. Before college, Jones was an All-State and All-CHSFL player at Stepinac High School in White Plains.
Thaddeus Kowal (6'0", 215 lbs.) - DePaul HS
Thaddeus (TJ) Kowal comes to Pace from DePaul High School in North Jersey. Kowal's performance during his senior year earned him Honorable Mention All-Passaic County recognition. Kowal will play linebacker for the Setters.
Andrew Lipski (6'0, 215 lbs.) - Miller Place HS, Iona College
Andrew Lipski makes the jump to Pace after being a standout linebacker for Iona for the past three seasons. At Iona, Lipski was a three-year starter for the Gaels, totaling 209 tackles and three interceptions during his career. Before Iona, Lipski was an All-County player at Miller Place High School on Long Island. Lipski will play middle linebacker for the Setters.
Patrick Lupfer (5'9", 180 lbs.) - Kellenberg HS
Patrick Lupfer comes to Pace from Kellenberg Memorial High School on Long Island. Patrick had a career year as a senior at Kellenberg, leading the CHSFL A Division in Receptions and Receiving Yards. Pat has shown an incredible desire to join the program at Pace and the coaches have been very impressed with his attitude and work ethic. Pat will play wide receiver for the Setters.
Tom Moore TE (6'1", 215 lbs.) - Croton-Harmon HS
Tom Moore comes to Pace after an outstanding season at Croton-Harmon, one in which the Tigers made a magical run to the Class C State Championship game. Moore played tight end for the Tigers and was selected as a 2nd-team All-State pick by the NYSSWA. Moore also played basketball at Croton. Tom has the potential to make an immediate impact at tight end for the Setters.
Gage Morris (6'0", 250 lbs.) - Bellport HS
Gage Morris arrives at Pace after enjoying a standout senior season at Bellport High School on Long Island where he played under legendary head coach, Joe Cipp Jr. Gage was the one of the key cogs on an offensive line that bulldozed opposing defenses and led the Clippers to a 7-3 record and a Big Four Championship. Gage will play offensive line for the Setters next season.
Glen Mourning (6'2", 210 lbs.) - University of Connecticut
Glen Mourning comes to Pace after graduating from the University of Connecticut. Mourning played three seasons at Connecticut, seeing action in the Husky secondary. Before UConn, Mourning was an All-State quarterback at Danbury High School Connecticut. Glen will play safety for the Setters.
Nick Saglimbeni (6'0", 235 lbs.) - Clarkstown South HS
Nick Saglimbeni rolls up at Pace after a successful senior campaign at Clarkstown South High School in Westchester. Saglimbeni started at both fullback and linebacker for the Vikings this season. Nick will play on the defensive side of the ball for Pace next year.
Kevin Scott OL (6'4", 300 lbs.) - Nassau CC, DeWitt Clinton HS
Kevin Scott comes to Pace after playing for Head Coach George Powers at Nassau Community College, a program considered to be one of the top junior colleges in the nation. Scott played offensive line at Nassau. Before going to Nassau, Scott was a standout lineman at Dewitt Clinton High School in the Bronx. Scott will play offensive tackle for the Setters.
Matt Strizak (6'1", 250 lbs.) - Don Bosco Prep
Matt Strizak comes to Pace after playing his high school ball at nationally ranked Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, New Jersey. Strizak was an integral part of Don Bosco's state championship run and was Third Team All-State pick, as well as a First Team All-County pick. Strizak will play either offensive or defensive line for the Setters.
Marvin Taylor (5'10", 200 lbs.) - New Brunswick HS, University of Connecticut
Marvin Taylor comes to Pace after playing a number of seasons with the University of Connecticut. Before UConn, Marvin was one of the top recruits in the state of New Jersey playing at New Brunswick High School. Marvin will either play linebacker or defensive back for the Setters and is expected to make a serious impact.
Duval Zimmerman (6'1", 210 lbs.) - Wilby HS, Southern Connecticut State University
Duval Zimmerman starts his stint at Pace after spending a year playing for the Southern Connecticut State University. Before college, Duval was a standout at Wilby High School in Connecticut. Duval will see action in the Setter secondary.
Stephen Ahart DL (6'6, 300 lbs.) - North Rockland HS
Stephan Ahart comes to Pace from North Rockland High School in Westchester. Stephan started on both sides of the line for the Raiders, helping to lead the team to an 8-2 mark and a playoff appearance. Ahart will play defensive end for the Setters.
Sean Bostic-Sealy DT/LB (6'1", 240 lbs.) - Bridgton Academy, Notre Dame HS
Sean Bostic-Sealy makes the jump to Pace after playing a season at Bridgton Academy in Maine. Bostoc-Sealy was a force at linebacker at Bridgton, making a number of plays for the Wolverines in his one season there. Before Bridgton, Bostic-Sealy played his high school ball at Notre Dame in Hamden, Connecticut. Bostic-Sealy will either play linebacker or defensive line for Pace.
Cody Childs TE (6'2", 220 lbs.) - Worcester Academy
Cody Childs joins fellow classmate Kyle Curran as the second Pace commit from Worcester Academy. At Worcester Academy, Cody was the starter at tight end for the Hilltoppers. Childs will continue to play tight end for Pace in the fall.
