LACROSSE FALLS TO MERRIMACK
NORTH ANDOVER, MA- The Pace men's lacrosse team lost to Merrimack College 12-5 in the Northeast-10 Conference game. The Setters drop to .500 at 7-7 overall and 4-5 in the NE-10, while the Warriors end their regular season at 11-3 and 8-2 in conference play.
The teams traded goals over the opening two and a half minutes of play as Joseph Clark (Hopkinton, MA/Hopkinton) tied the game at one with 12:35 left in the first period. Merrimack would score a pair of unanswered goals over the next three minutes of play before James Hammel (North Caldwell, NJ/West Essex) tallied a score to slice the Warrior lead to 3-2 after the first period.
Merrimack would waste little time in rallying back, scoring three goals in 27 seconds early in the second quarter to take a 6-2 lead. Ryan Gregory (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) would break the run off an assist by Hammel but the Warriors would tack of a pair of late goals to take an 8-3 into the break.
The Setters would only manage two goals over the final two periods as Clark netted his second of the day with 8:21 left in the third quarter and Joe Page (Eagan, MN/Eagan) would tally the final Setter goal of the day with 2:13 left in the game.
In net, Timothy Matheis (Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst) recorded nine saves in the game to take the loss.
Pace returns to action when on Saturday, April 26 when they
travel to Manchester, NH to take on Saint Anselm College in
Northeast-10 action scheduled for a 1:00 pm start in the Setters
regular season finale.
