SOFTBALL SWEEPS UMASS LOWELL
SHADA, PARLON TOSS COMPLETE GAME GEMS TO LEAD SETTERS TO SWEEP

BRIARCLIFF, NY - Setter starters Kiryl Shada (Pleasant Prairie, WI/Tremper) and Alicia Parlon (Norton, MA/Norton) tossed a pair of complete game gems as Pace swept a doubleheader from UMass Lowell taking the opener 2-0 and completed the sweep 4-1 in the nightcap. The Setters improve 24-18 and 12-12 in the Northeast-10, while the River Hawks drop to 22-20 and 15-7 in conference play.

The Setters got their runs in the second as DJ Ketchel (Staten Island, NY/Moore Catholic) led off with a single and moved to third on a double by Kelly Kinyon (Levtittown, PA/Harry S Truman). Following a pop out, Amanda Dague (Spring, TX/Klein Collins) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman) laced a single up the middle to score Ketchel and Kinyon for a 2-0 Setter lead. That would all Shada (11-8) would need as she tossed a three-hit shutout to go along with her eight strikeouts in game one. Lowell starter Lindsay Farmer (10-10) took the loss, allowing nine hits and two earned runs over six innings and struck out one.

UMass Lowell took an early lead in the nightcap on back to back doubles by Laurie Tanguay and Jachael Guanci to go up 1-0. The Setters came right back in their half of the first as Pane led off with a single. Pane would advance to second on sac bunt, reach third on a groundout and scored on a run scoring single by Trish Allutto (Matawan, NJ/Matawan).

The Setters took the lead in the third as Patricia Hurley (Assonet, MA/Apponequet) singled with two outs and moved to third as the ball was mishandled by the centerfielder. Alton Frisbie (Indian Hills, CO/Conifer) ripped a single to right field to give the Setters a 2-1 lead.

The Setters added some insurance runs in the fifth as they capitalized on two River Hawks errors to push across two more runs for a 4-1 lead.

For the mound for Pace, Parlon (5-3) tossed a complete game gem, allowing four hits and struck out two on her way to the win.  Lowell starter Nicole Monroe (7-4) was tagged with the loss, allowing seven hits and four runs (two earned), while striking out two.

The Setters return to action on Saturday, April 26 when they will host Southern New Hampshire University in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at 12:00 pm on Pace's Briarcliff campus.
