CHRISTINA PANE NAMED TO 2008 DAKTRONICS SOFTBALL ALL-AMERICAN TEAM
PLEASANTVILLE, NY - Junior Christina Pane (Stony Point, NY/Cardinal Spellman), a 2008 Northeast-10 Conference Softball All-Conference Second Team member and a 2008 Daktronics Softball Northeast All-Region First Team selection, has been named to the 2008 Daktronics Softball All-American Third Team, as voted on by the Sports Information Directors in Division II.
Pane was instrumental in leading the Pace University Softball team (29-19, 16-12 NE-10) to its first NE-10 Conference Tournament appearance since 2004, as the fifth seed. The Setters defeated #4 seed University of Massachusetts - Lowell, 2-1 in 8 innings, before falling to the #1 seed and eventual tournament champions Le Moyne College, 4-1. The 29 wins on the season marked the most wins by Pace since winning 33 games in back-to-back seasons in 2002 and 2003.
Pane had a career year in her junior campaign starting in all 48
games on year leading the Setters in nearly every offensive
category. Her .438 batting average, 71 hits, 40 runs scored, 29
RBI, .611 slugging percentage, .474 on base percentage, six
triples, 99 total bases and 13 stolen bases were all tops on the
team. In the NE-10, Pane finished the season tied for the league
lead in triples, tied for second in batting, second in hits, tied
for third in stolen bases, fourth in runs scored and total bases
and fifth in slugging and on base percentage. Pane also etched her
name in the Pace record book setting a new all-time single season
hits record with her 71 hits this season. The previous record of 67
was held by Tess Bair, which she accomplished during the 2003
season. Pane's 68th hits came in the Setters regular
season finale against Bentley College, on Sunday, April
27th. Pane ranks fourth all-time in career stolen bases
with 35 and is 10th all-time in both hits and runs
scored with 138 and 80, respectively.
