NORTHEAST-10 CHAMPIONSHIPS END WITH 17 MORE SCHOOL RECORDS SET
NEW HAVEN, CT- The Pace men's and women's swimming and diving teams concluded their participation at the Northeast-10 with 17 more school records over the final two days. On day one of the meet, the Setters set new records in the men's and women's 200-yard medley relay events.
The women's team set eight new records led by Callie Grace (Dalton, MA/Miss Halls), who set five school records, while Chelsea Oberhauser (Cream Ridge, NJ/Notre Dame) had a pair of school records. The quartet of Grace, Laura Carvajal (Norwalk, CT/Brien McMahon), Erin Johanson (Wakefield, MA/Wakefield) and Oberhauser set a new school record in the 200-freestyle relay with a time of 1:47.08.
For the meet, Cassandra Gentile (Cortland Manor, NY/Walter Panas) took second place in both the 1-meter (312.20) and 3-meter (318.60) diving events. Oberhauser set both of her records in the backstroke events, taking second place in the 100-yard event with a time of 1:01.57 and placed third in the 200-yard event with a time of 2:13.65. Grace set her records in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.90 as part of the 200-yard freestyle relay team while also posting school record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 56.00 and the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:02.89. She also took eighth place in both 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke events. Grace posted her record in the preliminaries with times of 1:11.74 and 2:35.22 in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke respectively.
Johanson finished 11th in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 57.46 and took 13th place in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:03.44. She also had a sixth place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:18.67, while finishing in 11th place in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.19.
The men's team rewrote the school record book to a tune of nine records over the course of the final two days. As a team, the foursome of Craig McClintock (Valhalla, NY/Valhalla), Trevor Paugh (Wantage, NJ/High Point Regional), Will King (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot), and John Nelson (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Walter Panas) set a new record in the 400-yard freestyle relay, posting a time of 3:34.93 in addition to their opening day record in the 200-yard medley relay.
McClintock and Paugh would go on to set four new school records each on their way to solid weekends. McClintock finished 10th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:08.09, while taking ninth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:39.45. He would go on to set two more record in both backstroke events, taking 12th in the 100-yard event with a time of 58.59, while placing 10th in the 200-yard event with a time of 2:06.63.
Paugh would post four top-10 finishes on his way to setting hi four school records. He finished fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:18.71 and took 9th in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.55. Paugh would also post a pair of eight place finishes in the 100-yard fly with a time of 56.34 and also in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:06.69.
The Setters return to action on Thursday, December 11 when they will travel to New York, NY for a tri-match against Baruch College and Queens College. The meet is scheduled to start ay 5 pm.
