SHIELDS NAMED ROOKIE OF THE YEAR ON THE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL DIVISION II ECAC ALL STAR TEAM
CAPE COD, MA - Pace University freshman forward Brittany Shields (Cold Springs, NY/Haldane) is being honored yet again to commemorate her fine freshman campaign for the Setters in the 2008-09 season. Shields was chosen as the ECAC Rookie of the Year becoming the second women's basketball player to ever win the award in Pace history. (DiMaggio 84-85).
Shields finished her freshman season averaging 14.9 points per game which ranked her 11th in the NE-10. She also averaged 8.7 rebounds per game which was good enough for 4th best in the conference on the season.
Shields's amazing freshman campaign also got recognition in the Pace record books as well. Shields finished the year with 433 points which ranks her 2nd all-time for most points scored by a freshman in her rookie season in Pace University history. She was 27 points shy of the all-time record set by Jen DiMaggio who scored 460 points in her freshman year. Shields finished with 253 rebounds on the season as well which also put her in 2nd place all-time for most rebounds by a freshman in Pace history. Mary Ellen Esch has the freshman record for most rebounds in a season with 325.

The ECAC publicizes the achievements of over 750 student-athletes annually through the postseason all-stars.
