PACE HAS FOUR PLAYERS IN DOUBLE FIGURES IN KEY
NON-CONFERNCE WIN
PLEASANTVILLE, NY- The Pace University women's basketball team started their non-conference schedule with a bang handling Adelphi University from start to finish in a convincing win. With the victory the Setters will move to 4-2 on the season, while the Panthers will drop to 4-2.
Pace started the game off with a great start as they jumped out to a 16-9 lead early with 12:23 left in the first half. Adelphi then made a 6-0 run of their own as they cut the lead down to one at 16-15 with 9:43 left in the half. This is the point where Pace pulled away from the Panthers in the half, and eventually for the rest of the game, with a 24-8 run to make the score 40-23 to end the half. The Setters were led in the first half by freshman sensation Brittany Shields (Cold Spring, NY/Haldane) as she had 10 points and seven rebounds which helped Pace build a big first half lead. Pace held Adelphi to 30 percent shooting which led to only 23 points at halftime for the Panthers
The second half was more of the same as Pace continued to roll as the lead got as high as 23, but never got below eight points. Pace used a balanced scoring attack in the second half to help maintain a double-digit lead over the Panthers for most of the half. An ironic statistic for Pace in the game was the Setters shot 48.3 percent in both halves from the field, and shot 25% in both halves from three-point land. Pace had four players in double figures led by Shields who finished with another double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds. Lisa Welsome (Staten Island, NY/St. Peter's) had team-highs of 13 points and eight assists. Brittany Huggins (Windsor, CT/Windsor) finished with 11 points on 5-of-11 from the field. Lastly, Shiesha McCollum (Newburgh, NY/ Washingtonville) scored 11 points, and finished one rebound shot of a double-double of her own with nine boards for the game. With the win the Setters now move to 3-0 at home this season.
The Lady Setters get back on the court on Saturday, December 13 as they will be one the road to take on non-conference foe Dowling College. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
