Entering her 16th season at the helm for the Setters, head coach
Carrie Seymour is coming off a 2006-07 season that saw Pace
reach the 20-win mark for a third consecutive season.
Seymour's Setters also returned to the NCAA Division II Tournament
for the third year in a row, advancing to the Northeast Regional
Semifinals.
Seymour enters the year as Pace's all-time victory leader with
290. In 15 years, Seymour has averaged 19 wins per season
since beginning in 1992. On January 26, 2002, Seymour reached
the 200-win mark with an 81-70 victory over Merrimack. To
date, she is the fourth-fastest Division II women's basketball
coach to reach 100 victories, accomplishing the feat in 127
games. This season, Seymour's Setters should get their coach
her milestone 300th win in no time.
Well known for her ability to recruit quality student-athletes who
graduate and go on to establish successful careers, Seymour has
guided her teams to nine postseason appearances. Including
last season, the Setters have participated in six NCAA Tournaments,
highlighted by a trip to the Division II Elite Eight in 2000-01 and
the Sweet Sixteen in 1993-94. Pace has also won three Eastern
Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II championships in
1993, 1996 and 1997. Coach Seymour has been recognized
regionally and nationally for her efforts, winning numerous
coaching awards. She earned the New York Collegiate Athletic
Conference Coach of the Year award following the 1993-94 season, is
a two-time WBCA District Coach of the Year (1993-94 and 1999-00)
and has also been named NIT/Metropolitan Basketball Writers
Association Division II Coach of the Year five times, following the
1995-96, 1999-00 and 2000-01, 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons.
One of the main constants of Seymour's Pace teams has been
defense. The Setters have ranked among the top 10 teams
nationally in defensive field goal percentage and scoring defense
in five of the past thirteen seasons, leading the nation in
defensive field goal percentage in 1993, 1994 and 1997.
Seymour's 2000-01 squad finished 12th in defensive field goal
percentage and 16th in scoring defense. The Setters led the
nation in both categories in 1993-94 and possess the second-best
all-time defensive field goal percentage among Division II schools
when they held opponents to a .308 shooting percentage in
1993-94.
Before coming to Pace, she began coaching at Eastern Connecticut
State University where she was an assistant for a year. She then
took on one-year stints as an assistant at Marist College and the
College of the Holy Cross, before working the sidelines at St.
John's University for six seasons. She arrived on thePace
campus in 1992 and the Setters teams have thrived ever since,
posting nine 20-win seasons.
Seymour attended Eastern Connecticut State University where she was
an all-star as a player. In 1983, she received her B.A. in
Psychology with minors in Physical Education and Coaching. She
